Half Price Lightning Cables and This Cord Works with the iPhone and Androids Gadget Review - Your lifestyle gadget site
Buy a Lightning cable direct from Apple and all you get is a simple, well, cord. It’s $19, aestheitcally unremarkable and feels anything but premium. So why buy it from there? That is exactly the question you need to be asking yourself.
So where to then? Simple: Amazon. The retailer, who has long had a line of products called “Amazon Basics“, offers a wide variety of Apple accessories, including top end Lightning cord. Now, many of you might have known this but there are a few things that are worth noting.
- They’re Apple MFI Certified. Which is to say they’ve got all the official chipset to work properly with your iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6+, iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s+.
- They’ve got a variety of length – 4-inch to 6 feet
- They cost about half as much as Apple’s own branded version
Now, there are also a variety of other brands on Amazon that are also MFi certified. So yes, they’re legit. And one that caught my eye in particular was from a company called Cable Creation. Cable Creation makes a 2-in-1 Lighting/microUSB cable. Yes, your read that right. It’s the best of both worlds.
The cord of the cable, or the cable itself is a microUSB. Tethered to it is a small dongle that converts it from microUSB to Lightning.
I ordered it last week and so far so good; it works perfectly. Moreover, the cable isn’t that familiar rubber finish. Instead they’ve opted for a rope or fabric outer layer, which provides it with a true premium finish.
Color options include Gold and Silver. I opted for Gold. Either way they’re $10 a pop.
Everyone should have one of these in their home as their will inevitably be an Android guest.
